Open WebUI // Operations Lead Application
I’m David: a brand and growth strategist turned service designer, creating systems that aim to change and empower businesses for the future.
What I would do at Open WebUI:
Design and run operations, build them to scale and last.
I have run operations where the stakes were real, and I design for a living, so I would help to build a system that is solid and able to follow. That is what keeps a small team supporting millions of downloads from tipping into chaos.
My story:
A brand designer by trade, growth strategist because of intrigue. Then, I ran manpower operations as an Inspector in the Singapore Police Force before training as a service designer at the Royal College of Art to understand systems.
So when the role asks for someone to find bottlenecks, fix them, and write the playbook everyone else can follow. That is not a stretch for me, that DNA that runs through everything I have done thus far, solving problems so businesses can grow.
You are most likely hiring your first dedicated operator, the person who builds the spine behind an open-source project that is now moving into enterprise. I bring some experience in that, as part of the pioneer team at Flip Coffee Roasters, to co-founding a start-up venture in London.
My track record:
4 Things I have actually built and delivered in 2025-26
Work samples // available on request:
Known gaps // ramp plan
Creating documentation for security questionnaires and procurement portals for clients
I have not done this in my career yet. Producing crisp, audit-ready documentation in a new domain is something my experience has equipped me for. I would aim to deliver the first clean template within two weeks.
HRIS / Hiring tooling
I know the people-ops workflow well, having run it manually across two separate industries. I have assisted with Hiring and Staff onboarding and development at Flip Coffee Roasters using manual processes.
In the Police Force, I have been exposed to HRMS/IS systems and can learn quickly, but if a system is not yet in place, I can map the process, then fit the tool to it.
Accounting and finance tooling
Business and accounting are not my main areas of expertise, but I have assisted in building a full three-year financial model and unit economics for my own venture in Psidon.
A key growth area for me would be learning your accounting stack in depth and continuing to sharpen my financial and business judgment in a real-world context.
Coordinating contracts, compliance, and policy updates with external counsel
This is a completely new area that I'm eager to learn. If there is no pre-existing system, I will commit to looking for guidance and mentors who can help me better understand the jobs to be done.
